Comprehensive Workshop on QEEG, Neurofeedback & tES

Advanced Training in Applied Neuroscience

Join our specialized workshop to learn the latest assessment and treatment techniques in the field of cognitive neuroscience. This course is designed for professionals, students, and researchers.

Workshop Syllabus

Session 1: Introduction and Fundamentals

Theory:

  • General introduction to Brain Mapping (QEEG), Neurofeedback, and transcranial Electrical Stimulation (tES).
  • History, clinical applications, and research uses.
  • Introduction to brain anatomy and brain rhythms (Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta, Gamma).

Practical:

  • Demonstration of an EEG device and its components (electrodes, amplifier, software).
  • Recording a short EEG from a volunteer.
Guest Speaker: Clinical experience with brain mapping.

Session 2: Fundamentals of Brain Mapping (QEEG)

Theory:

  • Steps of QEEG recording.
  • Principles of data preprocessing (artifacts, filtering, baseline correction).
  • Quantitative EEG (QEEG) metrics (spectral power, coherence, asymmetry).

Practical:

  • Performing a full QEEG recording and observing the output.
  • Software training for initial data processing.
Guest Speaker: Application of QEEG in diagnosing disorders (e.g., ADHD, Anxiety).

Session 3: Analysis and Interpretation of Brain Maps

Theory:

  • Introduction to normative databases.
  • Common patterns in disorders (Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, Sleep Disorders).
  • Limitations and pitfalls of brain mapping.

Practical:

  • Interpreting several real QEEG case studies.
  • Practice in pattern recognition.
Guest Speaker: Experience using QEEG in academic research.

Session 4: Fundamentals of Neurofeedback

Theory:

  • Principles of operant conditioning in neurofeedback.
  • Basic protocols (SMR, Alpha/Theta, Beta).
  • Overview of clinical applications.

Practical:

  • Conducting a simple neurofeedback session on a volunteer.
  • Working with software and setting up protocols.
Guest Speaker: Clinical experience in treating anxiety or ADHD with neurofeedback.

Session 5: Neurofeedback Protocols and Treatment Design

Theory:

  • Protocol selection based on QEEG results.
  • LORETA neurofeedback and advanced protocols.
  • Review of research evidence.

Practical:

  • Practice designing a protocol for a real case.
  • Practical implementation of two different neurofeedback protocols.
Guest Speaker: Sharing therapeutic experience in neurofeedback with children or adults.

Session 6: Fundamentals of transcranial Electrical Stimulation (tES)

Theory:

  • Introduction to tDCS, tACS, and tRNS.
  • Mechanisms of action and their differences.
  • Clinical and research applications.

Practical:

  • Demonstration of a tES device and safety training.
  • Conducting a short tDCS session on a volunteer.
Guest Speaker: Clinical experiences with tES.

Session 7: Designing tES Protocols

Theory:

  • Selecting electrode montages based on treatment goals.
  • Overview of standard protocols (e.g., for Depression, Chronic Pain, Cognitive Rehabilitation).
  • Combining tES with neurofeedback or QEEG.

Practical:

  • Designing a practical protocol for a case study.
  • Practical implementation of montages and safety checks.
Guest Speaker: Research or clinical experience in the field of tES.

Session 8: Wrap-up and Combined Workshop

Theory:

  • Review of all topics and the integration of QEEG, Neurofeedback, and tES.
  • Introduction to new trends (rTMS, fNIRS-EEG coupling, closed-loop systems).
  • The future of neuroscience technologies in psychology and medicine.

Practical:

  • Implementing a full workflow: EEG recording → Interpretation → Neurofeedback or tES treatment design.
  • Group discussion on case studies.
Guest Speaker: A keynote speaker summarizing their clinical and research experience.
