It was a comprehensive and informative webinar which attracted attention of researchers in the electrophysiology field. The many positive feedbacks that we received from the electrophysiologists and neuroscientists who registered in the webinar, lead us to planning for a hands-on course with Dr. Damien Depannemaecker covering all the aspects and details of Modeling Electrophysiological Activities.
Here is the opportunity to register for the 5-session “Modeling Electrophysiological Activities: From Single Neuron to Nervous Tissue” online course.

The Modeling Electrophysiological Activities: From Single Neuron to Nervous Tissue online course is designed for researchers, neuroscientists, physiologists and students who are new to this topic and those who already have some experience with animal electrophysiology data (spike, Local Field Potential (LFP) and EEG) and would like to improve their existing knowledge. This hands-on course will provide you with theoretical and experimental aspects of modeling electrophysiological activities. The course will involve a combination of lectures, discussions, and laboratory activities. During this course, you will learn about extracellular recording from rat models and also working with single-unit and LFP data. Registration includes workshop materials and a certificate of attendance upon completion of the course.
Extracellular recordings are used to monitor neuronal activity from outside the cell. It provides a means to measure patterns of action potentials within many areas of the peripheral and central nervous systems.
Field potentials are probably the most common extracellular signals being recorded including ECG, EMG and EEG. Extracellular field potentials are local current sinks or sources that are generated by the collective activity of many cells. Usually, a field potential is generated by the simultaneous activation of many neurons by synaptic transmission. Potentials can either be recorded invasively or non-invasively on the skin.
Single neuron recording is the use of an electrode to record the electrophysiological activity (action potentials) from a single neuron. Single-Cell Recording is a technique used in researches to observe changes in voltage or current in a neuron. This process is usually concurrent with some sort of stimuli.
